Finally, St. Peter & St. Paul Parish is honored and blessed to present a posthumous Holy Family Award to a beloved member of our parish community, Miss Michelle Onopa, who was called home to God on July 5th of this year. She was just 18 years of age. St. Peter & St. Paul Church was a kind of second home to Michelle, and its parishioners were like a second family. It was right here that she made her First Communion and Confirmation, and where, just last year she was a Confirmation leader with her mother, Laura. Such a program was a natural for Michelle because she loved being involved with community service projects like Club Interact, Relay for Life, and the annual Target Shopping Spree for underprivileged children. She had countless friends, and her mother wants to acknowledge in a special way those friends who are with us here this morning. Her mother says that Michelle had a real thirst for life. She embraced it with open arms and an open mind. She was wise beyond her years, amazing everyone with her courage and her faith, choosing to do great things with her short time here on Earth, and having a positive impact on almost everyone she met. She led by example and never gave up on her dreams. Her mother adds that Michelle taught us all so much. We are better people for having known her. We here at St. Peter & St. Paul prayerfully echo that sentiment in presenting this award.
