Mike and Martie Donovan have been parishioners here at St. Peter & St. Paul for more than 19 years, and it’s been here that they’ve lovingly raised their three sons, Matthew, Mark, and Joshua, all of whom are Eagle Scouts in the Boy Scouts of America. Scouting has been an important part of the Donovans lives for a long number of years, with Mike serving as an Assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 608 in Upland and Marti volunteering with that same Boy Scout Troop and Cub Pack as a fundraiser, Awards Chairperson, Committee Chair, and Den Leader. There’s a saying in Catholic circles that the family that prays together stays together, and while Mike and Martie wholeheartedly subscribe to that belief, they also add that the family that plays together stays together too. Giving witness to that idea, Mike has coached a total of 16 AYSO soccer teams over the years and Martie has been Team Mom for an astonishing 32 of their sons’sports teams. Mike’s other volunteer efforts in the community include the Special Olympics “Tip-A-Cop” project and a Christmas charity program known as “Shop With a Cop.” Here at St. Peter & St. Paul, both Mike and Martie are Eucharistic Ministers and are active in a ministry to young people in the dorms at Cal Poly, a ministry that invites those students to Mass with the Donovan Family on Sunday evenings and then to join them for dinner at the Donovan home. In addition to that, Mike is a charter member of the St. Joseph’s Covenant Keepers, while Martie is active in our parish Health Ministry. A week from Monday, on January 7th, Mike and Martie will be joined by family and friends as they observe their 24th Wedding Anniversary.
