January 11, 2009 - Update #13

The construction of our new John Paul II Pastoral Center is progressing nicely.   The following are updated changes:

·        Phone System for the building:

1.      The tie cable between the existing main terminal and the new bldg. was in and terminated at both ends on blocks.

2.      All the cat-5 network cabling, the cat-4 telephone wiring, and the video wiring are in and terminated in both the satellite terminal and at the wall outlets.

3.      The wall outlet covers are all placed as well as the network jacks and telephone jacks.

4.      The only thing left to do is the jumpering once the move is started along with moving the telephone sets and computers.

·        The elevator is fully installed.

·        The signage is being completed.

·        Irrigation and landscaping are complete.

·        Edison has completed their tie-ins for the electrical work.

·        Carpet on both floors is completely installed.

·        Final interior and exterior touch-ups are being completed.

·        If all falls into place, the building should have power this week with final inspections to follow.

·        We are still waiting to confirm our move-in date.

As it has been mentioned before, our new parish facility will have over 17,000 sq. ft. of useable space, consisting of a first floor, which will be office space, seven (7) classrooms for religious education, and six of those rooms can be converted into three (3) larger ones. The second floor is primarily dedicated to the youth of our parish and will be comprised of four (4) large conference rooms that can be converted into one (1) large meeting room.   The present parish office will continue to be used for offices, but will no longer serve as the reception area.  The new reception will be located in Pastoral Center.   In the future, once we are in the new building, the Religious Education building will be used for much-needed organized storage, which has been approved by the city for such use.

As stated in the last update, your strengths (God- Given Talents) are needed. We have a specific need for people who are talented in assisting us in organizing our eventual move to the new building – a huge undertaking that will be headed up by Richard Soto and Bob McGwire. The move to the new building will require many hands. If you are interested in helping with the move please contact Richard at 909-518-0875, or email him at dustoff3687@yahoo.com

06-03-2008 – Update #9

Our new John Paul II Pastoral Center is progressing nicely, the structure is in place, and the framing is almost done. Our new parish facility will have over 17,000 sq. ft. useable space, on the 1st floor, which will be comprised of office space and seven (7) classrooms for religious education, and six of those rooms can be converted into (3) larger ones. The second floor is primarily dedicated to the youth of our parish and will be comprised of four (4) large conference rooms that can be converted to one (1) large meeting room.

Also, so to keep you fully informed, the present parish office will remain, as well as the present R.E. building.  The present parish office will continue to be used for offices, but will not be the reception area, which will be now served out of the new pastoral center.  Presently, due to the lack available space, we have three (3) staff members utilizing the rectory as office space, as Father Pat is doing.  Father Pat’s old office is being utilized by the Youth Ministry Staff.

In the future, once we are in the new building, the R.E. building will be used for much-needed organized storage, and has been approved by the city for such use. The R.E. building was never approved to be divided into the various room, and thus, we were in violation of its use designation.  But, since we were successful in saving these buildings, the city has approved the R.E. building, designating its uses for storage, and boy, this parish certainly can use a lot of space for some organized storage.  Also, by us saving the parish office and the R.E. building, the parish has also saved on the 2nd phase of the project, which means we have saved the expense of demolition and then the construction of a rather expensive courtyard.

As stated in the last update, your strengths (God-Given Talents) are needed.  We have a specific need for people who are talented in assisting us in organizing our eventual move to the new building – a huge undertaking that will headed up by Richard Soto and Bob McGwire.  The move to the new building will require many hands.  This is your parish community and we need you to start contacting us – call Richard at 909-518-0875, or email him at dustoff3687@yahoo.com .

Lastly, we need to know the various trades that our parishioners are associated with – whether it is carpentry, electrical, masonry, painting, dry walling, landscaping, decorating, plumbing, computer, networking or anything that you do that can assist your parish community.  So many times, maybe just a few times a year, we have needs at our parish for someone to volunteer their time and talent.  This is an old parish in need of some much needed repairs and some cosmetic improvement.  Thus, we you stepping up with your talents, not only do you save our parish a tremendous amount of our limited resources, but you then answer God’s Call to service in his church, your parish community and faith.

05-06-2008 – Update #8

As the contractor for the building project has put it; “We are blowing and going!”

Which simply means that they are able to proceed, unhindered, with the construction of the new building.

The construction progress is really taking a visible leap forward.

You should all take a good look at your new parish building –

over 17,000 square feet of useable space to serve God’s Purpose

in making Christ more loved and better known.

As stated in the last update, your strengths (God-Given Talents) are needed.

We have a specific need for people who are talented in assisting us

in organizing our eventual move to the new building –

a huge undertaking that will headed up by Richard Soto

and will require many hands to get the this moving job done in the most efficient way possible.

This is your parish community and we need you to start contacting us –

call Richard at 909-518-0875, or email him.

04-08-2008 – Update #7

Yes, we have had some delays due to the wet weather.

We have had another minor delay due to some structural steel not being delivered.

But, by the time you read this, you will be able to see steel beams for a two story building in place,

and framing taking shape.

On another front, as stated before,

the badly raised sidewalks on the west and north ends of the church have been replaced.

Additionally, as we did the sidewalk replacement,

we had to repair electrical wiring that needed some serious attention..

(Wiring that feeds the lighting for our N.W. Church Sign).

Again, God’s Handyman’s Ministry is taking the lead in so many areas and “engaging”

others to help your parish of St. Peter and St. Paul.

The church leaks above the cry room and Sacristy

have been professionally repaired by replacing the roofing materials.

Lastly, your strengths (God-Given Talents) are needed – whether you are a professional mover,

do electrical work, any kind of construction or can donate materials -

we need you and welcome your support by contacting

God’s Handyman (Tom Catlin, 240-6610 or 987-9312).

02-26-2008

Dry weather has set in, at least for the time being, which simply means

our parish building project will be commencing along a noticeable path.

In other words, even for the untrained eye, you should be able to see actual progress.

Also, all temporary asphalt patch work will be redone with permanent patch work.

Thus, the issues associated with uneven and irregular parking lot asphalt will soon be in the past.

About 90% of the underground utility work is done, which is a positive, and not at all the norm on a project like this.

The slab work will now proceed, and hopefully get finished before the next rain.

Keep in mind, with a completed slab, even with less than desirable weather,

construction of the actual building can commence.

02-12-2008

Well, we are back on track from the rain delays,

and since so many having asked,

the digging in the parking lot has been completed.

In regards to the digging in the parking lot,

all necessary due to the project’s requirements for things like water, sewage,

fire protection and the result of exploratory work

that had to be done to find things that were not accurately portrayed on previous parish plans.

Therefore, with the parking lot digging finished,

all those affected areas will now be properly fixed.

The next phase will be the cement slab (foundation) that supports the new building.

January 29, 2008

Infrastructure work continues.

And yes, such work has been set back due to the rains.

The fire hydrant installation work, which started on 10th, has basically been completed.

Now all we need is for the weather to cooperate so the building foundation/pad can be finished,

which simply means actual building construction can commence.

Oh by the way, we have found out why the far south end parking lot light is not working.

Come to find out, this parking lot light was never actually connected to the other parking lot lights.

Thus, at the appropriate time under the scope of our construction project,

this parking lot light issue will be rectified.

December 26, 2007

Construction has officially started on the new Pastoral Center with the
demolition of the St. Joseph's and Guadalupe Buildings.

Presently, the site for this new building is in the preparation stage -
grading and infrastructure (Utilities - plumbing/etc.).

Keep in mind that this is very large construction project - therefore,
disruption is natural, especially due to the limited amount of free space
available to us. But, with this stated, we will do whatever we can to
anticipate and minimize any inconvenience as best we can.
